The last few days have been so hot (around 30°C) that I didn't manage to muster the courage to sit down at my PC to blog. Temperatures have now gone down a bit, so here I am again.
Recently, I read a book that got me thinking: "Eat to Live" by Joel Fuhrman (the link is to the eReader ebook version, as I read it on my Palm). The author is a medical doctor, and the major part of the book gives an overview of the current state of scientific knowledge on the effect of what we eat on our health. From there, he derives his food recommendations for optimal health.
Let's say that the information he presents seems well informed and is sufficiently convincing to scare me away from some of the things I (and we as a society) eat regularly. After reading this, I have little trouble wanting to direct my eating habits towards his recommendations. There is more to it, but an essential part is that we should eat about 90% of our calories in the form of vegetables (raw and cooked) and fruit. I recommend you get a copy and read it so you can judge for yourself.
Anyway, I've been eating salads quite regularly these last two weeks, and large amounts of fruit. (By the way, after getting used to fruit like this, any of those industrial sweets we normally enjoy seem very bland in comparison.) And I've lost 4 kg in those two weeks, without ever being hungry, and enormously enjoying my food. But my BMI tells me there is still some way to go (4 more kg to lose at least). So let's see if I can keep it up...
