Today was what is traditionally termed a "special day" for me: indeed, today I turned 40.
As I've written before, I mostly consider birthdays as occasions to be thankful and to celebrate (and to receive some presents of course...). And as my parents had the excellent foresight all those years ago to plan for my 40th birthday to happen on a Sunday, I thought it only fair to invite them to partake in those celebrations. So we arranged to have lunch at a good restaurant with them and my sister and her husband. Or so I thought.
Whereas for me, this seemed quite an agreeable prospect, my beloved had more ambitious plans for the day. So when we arrived at the restaurant, to my considerable surprise, I was cheered and greeted by some 26 relatives and friends. She had managed to arrange all this on fairly short notice, without me noticing anything. To me this again proves (a) that she has considerable organisational skills (which I mostly lack), and (b) how much she loves me (here I can compete).
The nice weather, the delicious food and the fine company all made for a day that I'll remember with joy and fondness. Life really has its moments, and I'm happy to be able to share them with such a marvellous woman... Thank you, my love!
